MTL troubleshooting

The MTL page that you asked for should look like the one below. If you do not see a similar display, check the notes below.

What you should see

1. I cannot see the folders.

There can be a slight delay between opening the webpage and seeing the folders. If this happens, after a few seconds, just refresh the page. If this problem occurs every time you go on the site, the problem may be your web browser. While it should be possible to view the page with older web browsers, most problems encountered are easily resolved by simply updating your browser and ensuring that your browser uses the latest Java and Flash technology. Please ensure that your web browser is the latest version of Internet Explorer, Safari or Firefox. You can check to see if you are running the latest version of Java here and Flash here.

2. I get the following message.

What you might see

If the folder you are trying to access is being updated, then temporarily it may not be possible to view it. This situation usually resolves itself in a few minutes, so go back to the website later and check again.

3. I can see the files, but I would like to view them online.

Files in pdf and ppt format can be viewed when the mouse cursor hovers over the file and a white arrow in a blue box appears on the right hand side. You can then open the file by using Google Docs (see image below). However this is not the case with Word documents. This format is only used for those forms, which students or mentors may wish to complete electronically and so these will need to be downloaded before they can be viewed.

How to open folders and files

4. When I try to download a file, I get the error message, Failure - download was cancelled

This may be caused by a loss of your Internet connection, or perhaps the download timed out for some reason. Initially if this happens, check that you do have an Internet connection. You could then refresh the page and try again. You may also need to delete all temporary Internet files from the browser cache before you try again. The method for deleting temporary Internet files differs according to the browser, but is usually found from the browser Tools menu. If you are unsure how to do this, seek the help of your IT technician in school.

5. I have done all of the above and still cannot see these folders.

There may be a problem which is specific to your locale. Contact your IT technician and direct them to the Help Page on Box.net. If your IT technician still cannot resolve the issues, ask them to email Colin Dempsey, ideally with a screenshot of the problem.
