'The Future of History' conference was held at MMU in association with the North West History Forum on Friday 10 July 2009.The focus of the day was on Teaching and Learning in the 21st century classroom for teachers of Primary and Secondary History.
We welcomed Dr. Michael Riley and Dr. Tim Lomas as the two keynote speakers. As well as the keynote speeches, a key feature of the conference was the opportunity for the delegates to participate in interesting and practical workshops.
These were delivered in the morning and the afternoon by experienced classroom practitioners and experts from the educational services including, the Greater Manchester County Record Office, Manchester Museum and the Imperial War Museum North.
During lunchtime they also had the opportunity to showcase their work, allowing delegates to explore how they could be of benefit to their teaching and schools.

Just over one hundred delegates attended this one day event which was deemed a huge success. Delegates included representatives from partner schools, partner organisations, MMU staff and MMU students. The day was driven by Aileen Thom, Head of ITT Partnerships.
Keynote speeches were delivered by Bea Noble-Rogers from National Strategies and Marilyn Eccles from the Centre for Urban Education which the evaluations showed to be thought-provoking and energising. Ray Moorcroft incorporated a drumming session, delivered by a representative from 'Roland Technology,' into his slot to highlight the partnership offer which was greatly received and created a talking point!
