The Faculty of Education at MMU is a leading UK centre for educational research and study It is the major provider of initial teacher education and training continuing professional development in the northwest and is one of the largest teacher education establishments in the country.
The Faculty is based on two campuses, Didsbury (Greater Manchester) and Crewe (Cheshire) and has a distinctive reputation for providing high quality learning experiences at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.
The Faculty of Education provides various routes leading to Qualified Teacher Status, including an honours degree in primary
education (three years full-time from September 2012), a one year PGCE (postgraduate) in Primary Education and a wide range of
one year PGCE Secondary subject options.
Our Primary PGCE and BA (QTS) programmes have won high praise from OfSTED who judged them to be 'Outstanding in the 2011

The Faculty houses the Educational and Social Research Institute (ESRI), which is an important and expanding centre of excellence in educational research and evaluation, with a thriving research community.
It is committed to research-enriched professional practice and aims to offer the best and most innovative approaches to research-informed professionalism in the UK, across a growing range of professional areas. It received the highest grading of any of the new universities in the last research Assessment Exercise, and its research degree training is recognised by the Economic and research Council (ESRC). Its research degrees programmes attract students with a wide range of interests from the UK and overseas.
International links are fostered through numerous European Union sponsored programmes and projects. The Faculty also runs summer schools for international students and hosts customised study visits for groups of overseas educators. The Education and Social Research Institute plays a major role in international research alliances and is led by a team of senior staff who enjoy international distinction as educationists and who are in regular demand as speakers, advisors and consultants on the world stage.
